How to Spot a Puppy Scammer

The most essential tips to check before you make a payment for a new puppy, so you never become a victim of a puppy scam.

What to Look Out For

Protect Yourself Before You Pay

  • Requested photos or videos can sometimes be stolen from another site or breeder. The best option is to see the puppy in person — if that's not possible, always ask for a live video call or live chat on WhatsApp (or another platform) to confirm the puppy actually exists.
  • If requesting additional images or video, ask for something specific — for example, a picture or video of the puppy with the seller's hand pointing at the puppy's right ear, or a photo with a handwritten note (your name and the current date).
  • Authentic sellers should offer payment options linked to a traceable account, such as e-transfer, bank details, PayPal, or credit card. Traceable transaction methods are the safest choice.
  • If the price seems too good to be true, call the breeder, ask to see the puppies interact on video — or walk away.
We proactively offer live video calls — you don't have to ask twice. Message us on WhatsApp or mention it in your inquiry, and we'll happily hop on a live video call with you and the puppy before you ever send a deposit.
